Families & Friends Celebration
DATE: Sunday, May 15, 2016
TIME: 1:00 – 4:00 PM
LOCATION: YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre, 5151 – 47 Street NE
On May 15th, we will gather families and friends of the Calgary Police Foundation to celebrate the impact of its programs… its people… its supporters … at the incredible, newly opened YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre. An exclusive event for donors, where families and friends to the Foundation, and their guests, will be immersed in the galleries and hands-on activity stations at YouthLink.
The afternoon of enlightenment will include highlights such as personal YouthLink Auxiliary Cadets guides, up-close experiences with the Calgary Police Service Canine Unit, a Passport for the kids and kids-at-heart to complete as they visit each specialized area, canapés and BBQ to enjoy from the Teatro Restaurant Group, a fabulous door prize draw for youth and adults, and an opportunity to win some amazing prizes in our 2016 raffle (see below). We will also hear from a few of our Calgary Police Foundation Ambassadors who will share the success of the support they received when they needed it most.
For our adult guests, we have invited a very special guest speaker, Psychiatrist Adrian Norbash. Dr. Norbash will do a presentation on the science around the impact of marijuana on the developing adolescent brain.
Tickets are FREE but there is limited space so REGISTER EARLY! Please feel free to invite friends and family members who might also be interested in this special day with us and learn more about the youth focus we have at the Calgary Police Foundation.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION: The Science Around the Impact of Marijuana on the Developing Adolescent Brain
By now most people are aware that legislation is being created in Canada’s parliament that will legalize the commercial production, distribution and use of marijuana in all 10 provinces. This means that, like alcohol, pot will be easily available and that some projections put it at a $5 billion a year industry. But what are the real facts about marijuana use? What is the science around THC, the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis. In recent years scientists have learned more and more about the real impact of this drug. Many parents of teenage and pre-teenage children now, more than ever, want to know the facts about the impact of this drug on the developing teenage brain. What can we expect? As responsible parents what should we be teaching our kids? What is it that we need to know?
This presentation will arm you with the facts that will assist you in having that critical conversation with your kids. It’s not about fear mongering or rumours. It’s about what you need to know as a caring and responsible parent delivered by a psychiatrist who is a parent himself.
