Calgary, AB The Calgary Police Foundation wishes to express its profound sadness and deepest condolences on the loss of Jim Prentice.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Prentice – a dear friend and founding member of the Calgary Police Foundation. Jim was instrumental in impacting tens of thousands of children,” says Brian Ferguson, Chair of the Calgary Police Foundation. “Jim’s compassion and leadership was critical to the Police Foundation’s success. He helped to establish the organization and was instrumental in raising money that led to the opening of the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre, YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre, and a number of other youth programs geared towards crime prevention.”
The Calgary Police Foundation was formed in 2011, and was created exclusively to partner with the Calgary Police Service. The Foundation funds community initiatives that reduce youth victimization and criminal activity by focusing on education, prevention and early intervention in programs that are not government funded.
“Jim intrinsically understood that our youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and that a Foundation that helped youth make better choices in life is critical to our community overall. Jim knew that keeping youth safe ultimately keeps our city safe,” says Roger Chaffin, Chief Constable of Calgary Police Service. “The Foundation was formed largely with Jim’s commitment and dedication to building a safe city by first helping to look after our youth.”
“Calgary’s youth are learning about making better decisions and keeping safe from crime. The Calgary Police Foundation continues to have a lasting and positive influence on the children and youth of Calgary” says Tara Robinson, Executive Director of the Calgary Police Foundation and YouthLink. “None of this would have been possible without the vision of our founders, most especially Mr. Prentice.”
The Calgary Police Foundation would like to express its sincere condolences to his wife Karen Prentice and his entire family at this most difficult time.
