One of the most fundamental privileges we enjoy in Calgary is living in a safe community. I am proud to be involved with the Calgary Police Foundation which supports education, prevention and early intervention programs where children at risk of victimization or criminal activity are identified and supported as needed. The Foundation will help strengthen our community, ensuring it remains a safe place to live and raise our families.
I believe Calgary is at a pivotal point in our growth as a community where we must address the issues confronting our young people. We have the resources to do that. By working together we can ensure that all children have the opportunity to grow and thrive, contributing positively to their communities. Vulnerable children require strong leadership and positive role models if we are to conquer child abuse, drug and alcohol addictions, gang life, bullying and cybercrime. The programs supported by the Calgary Police Foundation will help break cycles to which so many of our young people fall prey.
Partnering exclusively with the Calgary Police Service, the Calgary Police Foundation functions independently with its Board of Directors who provide governance, oversight and fundraising for select programs that fall outside of the regular police service budget. We do not play any role in enforcement or apprehension.
I believe the strength of a community is driven when all members join together in a common purpose. I encourage all citizens of Calgary, newcomers and long-time residents, to support the Calgary Police Foundation and help us achieve the goal of a safer Calgary.
